I thought I'd do a segment on what I feel each of the four Chaos powers armies were for. A general overview of each gods strength and weakness in my opinion.
Khorne: His followers are made for close combat. What I have noticed is that most get power weapons and hive high to mid toughness and strength. You should note that they do not come with grenades so if assaulting through cover you will strike last. Khorne also generally gives his followers Furious charge upping Strength and initiative on the charge. With Khorne units you want to be aggressive and charge rather than be charged. You also want to use cover because most have a high invulnerable save. I like to use Khorne units against Marine units or other high armor save armies.
Slaanesh: Most Slaanesh Daemons have high initiative and number of attacks but low toughness and strength. Most also have rending and offensive and defensive grenades. This means they generally strike first with a bucket load of attacks. Their low toughness means that you want to kill whatever unit they attack. They are fragile and don’t fare well if charged are counterattacked in combat. With Slaanesh units you also want to use cover to your advantage as there save is also high. These are what I like to use against horde armies such as Orks, Tyranids and Imperial Guard.
Tzeench: This is where a Daemon Army gets its shooting. Tzeench units generally have a lower invulnerable save good shooting weapons but are paper in close combat. Remember that when our units Deep Strike we can only run or shoot on the turn they come in. Tzeench units (and the SoulGrinder) are the units you want to use if you want a first turn torrent of fire. Tzeench I use against most armies and try to overwhelm with number of shots. If you use Flamers of Tzeench they are great anti horde. Screamers are good anti tank.
Nurgle: These units are the toughest we can get and also the slowest. Nurgle units excel at being shot or attacked. Most have feel no pain and their invulnerable save. They also have poison weapons wounding when other units can’t. These tough suckers I use for both Icon duty and as a fire sponge. They will almost always hit last in combat but when they do hit they have a chance to wound regardless of toughness. Therefore I use these as multi-wound, high toughness, character and monstrous creature assassins.
